Elizabeth “Eliza” (Lichtenwalter) Fox petitioned Northampton County on November 25, 1831 in Easton, PA to have a new guardian for her daughter Julianna Hagenbuch. The father is mention as Stephen Hagenbuch, and the court records say Elizabeth was not intermarried to him. Based upon the age and location (Lower Nazareth Township, Northampton County, PA), the father of Julianna is presumed to be Stephen Hagenbuch (b. 1803) who married a different woman around 1830.
The court records show that Elizabeth wants her daughter, Julianna, to go to Peter Lichtenwalter, who appears to be Elizabeth’s father. Research shows that Elizabeth had married Daniel M. Fox in August of 1831, so he may not have wanted Julianna (his step-daughter) living with them, hence why she petitioned the court in November of that year to assign a guardian.
This family group later moved to Calhoun County, Michigan. Elizabeth “Eliza” or “Leisse” (Lichtenwalner) Fox is buried there with her husband, Daniel. A death certificate for Angeline Fox of Calhoun County, MI notes her father was “Hagenbuch” (no first name given), her mother was Eliza Lichtenwalner, and that she was born in Pennsylvania. This is believed to be Julianna given the location, dates, and names. Angeline may have been her middle name.1
It appears Julianna Angeline Hagenbuch married John Fox around 1845. He was likely related (perhaps a nephew) to her step-father, Daniel M. Fox. In this way, both Julianna and her mother, Elizabeth, ended up having “Fox” as their married last names.
