Obituary for Nancy (Hagenbuch) Harwood: Harwood, Nancy H August 6, 1927 - December 30, 2011 Nancy was born in Plymouth, England, and was raised on her folks’ cattle ranch in Rowland, Nevada, near Elko. Her parents, Rea and Winnie Hagenbuch, met during WWI in England. After a wonderful childhood, riding horses, helping brand cattle, haying and fishing, her family moved to Santa Monica, where Nancy attended and graduated from U.C.L.A. At the end of WWII, Nancy met her husband and soulmate, Ted Harwood; they moved to the San Fernanco Valley and started a family. Ted joined his brother Don in a successful business based in Reseda, which lasted many years. Throughout their very happy 50-year marriage, there were many adventures and fantastic memories with family members and friends. Some of Nancy’s interests included needlework, camping, rose gardening and playing bunco with her many friends. Having been a widow for the past 14 years, the Granada Hills Womens’ Club became a major part of Nancy’s life, thanks to her dear friend Ursula Hedges. When cancer took Nancy recently, our hearts were broken! There could never be a more wonderful mentor and best friend to us “kids” and her 6 grandkids; all of whom live in California. Nancy leaves a very dear sister, Jean Ellis and husband, Tom of Liberty, Ky. Her daughters include Pat Smith of Camarillo, Jan Harwood of Sherman Oaks, Fay and husband Bob Bailey of Woodland Hills, sons Ted Harwood and wife Gina Wheat of Crockett and Ray and wife Joyce Harwood of Bakersfield. Grandkids Blake and Sloan Bailey of Woodland Hills, James and Kara Harwood of Davis, Bryan Harwood at Humboldt State University, Greg Harwood of Vallejo and Cassie Harwood of Oakland, all made her very proud. Longtime neighbors Betty and Karen Forsberg and Ernestine Hughson were very special friends. Special thanks to son Ted and his wife Gina, for staying with Nancy and caring for her so lovingly during her final weeks. Mom, you had a good, long run; we miss you so much and will love you forever. Happy trails to you ‘til we meet again. Published in the Los Angeles Times on Jan. 29, 2012
