Funeral services for Robert Edward Frost, 72 of Alpine are scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 24, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Afton with Rev. Gerald Chleborad officiating. Burial will follow at the Etna/Alpine Cemetery. He died Sunday, February 20, 1994, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City from complications of pneumonia. He was born January 3, 1922 in Ottawa, IL, to Arthur and Louise Kopp Frost. He was raised and educated in Ottawa and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1939. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps January 7, 1942. He served in the South Pacific seeing action in Tulagi, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, the Gilbert Islands, Saipan, Guam and Iwo Jima. He received the Bronze Star with a combat V. He was honorably discharged October 5, 1945 at the rank of staff sergeant. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Nebraska. He married Nettie L. Jennings November 27, 1952 in McCook NB. They lived in Cheyenne where he was employed by the Wyoming Highway Department as a bridge engineer. In 1960, they moved to Denver where he began work with the Federal Highway Administration. In 1964, they moved to Bountiful, Utah. He continued to work with the Federal Highway Administration until his retirement in 1978. He moved to Alpine after his retirement and had lived there since. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and was a charter member for the Jackson council of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Nettie of Alpine;(Nettie died in 2013) two daughters; three sons, one sister; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son. Memorials can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
