Steven E. Gilbert, age 70, of Polo, died Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Oregon Living and Rehabilitation Center in Oregon. Steve was born March 8, 1947 in Dixon the son of Elwin and Verjean (Begamann) Gilbert. He served in the US Army from 1967 – 1973. Steve married Karen Mickley on November 27, 1970 in Prophetstown and was employed at Besse Farm Store for 20 years. He then owned and operated Steve’s Farm Repair for 20 years. Steve was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Polo and the Polo American Legion Post #83. He was the President of the Buffalo Township Cemetery, was a John Deere tractor collector, Boy Scout Leader and an avid Bears fan. What he enjoyed most was spending time with family and friends over a cup of hot coffee. Survivors include his wife, Karen Gilbert of Polo; three daughters, Michelle (Steve) Gunder of Polo, Heather (John Wulf) Rentz of Davenport, Iowa and Stephanie (Darrell) Walker of Dubuque, Iowa; one son, Ryan (Lauren) Gilbert of Waterloo; one sister, Marcia Smith of Mobile, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Tyler Horner, Emalie Gunder, Sydney Gunder, Colton Gunder, Kaiden Rentz, Gavin Rentz, Kingston Sanders, Braylon Walker and Samuel Gilbert; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jeff Gilbert.
