Steven Brunstrom

Steven G. Brunstrom, 52, of Aledo, formerly of Moline, died peacefully Sunday, July 6, 2003, surrounded by his family and close friends, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

The family would like for you to share in the celebration of his life during a visitation at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline, from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. A final farewell gathering and celebration will be held Thursday, July 24, in Steve’s special “corner of the world.” We would like family and friends to share this special evening on his land. We will meet at Moline High School student parking lot at 5 p.m. for those who will caravan out. We will begin the celebration by 6 p.m.

Memorials for Steve will be designated for an educational fund for his children and a special plaque to be placed in memory near his parents’ memorial.

Steve was born June 28, 1951, in Moline, son of Dwayne and Vivian Hisler Brunstrom. He was a 1969 graduate of Moline High School and graduated from Western Illinois University in 1973 with degrees in elementary education and park and recreation. He married Mary Mortell in November 1973. They had two daughters.

Steve was able to inspire and touch many lives through his years as a teacher and chose to work as a carpenter these last few years with a dear family friend.

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting with close friends. He was a talented craftsman sharing wonderful handmade gifts over the years. The last nine years, he enjoyed working his land, building a beautiful lake and gathering with friends and family.

Steve was truly blessed by good people to share these special times with and considered his years as “dad” to be his finest moments, attending activities and sharing in his daughters’ lives.

He is survived by his daughters, Seeley, Chicago, and Sarah, Moline; brother, Morgan, Flagstaff, Ariz.; nephew, Morgan, East Moline; Uncle Howard, Aunt Millie and special cousins.

He was thankful for the many people who passed through his life, especially the friendship of Bill and Sandie Morris and John and Janice DeBuysere and their families.
