Ann Catherine Martens died peacefully with her family by her side on August 26 at the home of her grandson in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Melvin Warrick, of Deer Park, Illinois, her husband of 55 years, and her brother, John Martens of Granville, Illinois, preceded her in death. Ann was born November 23, 1915 in LaSalle County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Fred August Martens and Anna Kathryn Dietrich. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Illinois in 1940 and subsequently taught in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Illinois. She married Melvin on August 16, 1941 at Immanuel (County Line) Lutheran Church near Peru, Illinois. As an Air Force couple, the Warrick’s lived in several states prior to settling in Osborn (now Fairborn), Ohio in 1946, where she co-founded the Garden Club in 1950. She was a Girl Scout leader, active in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, founder of the Canasta Club and a was a community volunteer. She traveled extensively with her husband and then later with her entire family. Ann will be lovingly remembered for her grace and positive spirit. Ann is survived by children: Marcia Althoen of Holly, Michigan, Margaret Warrick of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and John Paul Warrick of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; and grandchildren: Michael Althoen, Tosca Althoen Trowt, Kasper Warrick, Laiken Warrick, Teagen Warrick, Sabyn Warrick, and Abigail Warrick; and great-grandson: Alec Althoen. Visitation, beginning at 9:00 a.m., will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 2, followed at 10:30 by funeral services and then burial at Deer Park Cemetery. A memorial service will also be held at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Fairborn, Ohio at noon on Sunday, September 24.
