Juanita Catherine “Neenie” Snell,89,formerly of Tonica,died January 9,2013 in Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru. She was surrounded by her loving family when she left this earth to join her heavenly family. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 am Saturday in Holy Family Church in Oglesby with Rev Gary Blake officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica. Visitation will be in the church from 8:30 am until 10:00 am on Saturday. The Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica is assisting the family. Mrs Snell was born in Utica on August 16,1923 to Edward and Irna(Jones)Flynn. She married Joseph Edward Snell in St. Mary’s on October 24,1945. Juanita,who was nicknamed Neenie by her sister. At 16 month,she lost her mother to Tuberculosis. She attended LaSalle-Peru High School. During World War II,like most women her age,she worked in a factory on glass canopies for warplanes in Ottawa. She later worked at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Peru. She also farmed with her husband in the Deer Park area. Sadly, through the early years,she lost three children. But her faith and courage gave strength to the rest of the family to carry on. Neenie was a member of Holy Family Church in Oglesby. She loved to read,knit and cook delicious meals for her family. She is survived by one daughter,Lois C. Beenenga of Tonica. Two sons, John Snell of Mandeville,Louisiana and Jeff(Jeanine)Snell of LaSalle. Grandchildren,Tricia Chung,Kathy Volk,Paul Beenenga Jr.,Julie Beenenga, Kayla,Jaclyn,Andrew and Lauren Snell. Great-grandchidren,Jason and Kevin Chung, Elizabeth and Brady Volk. Sons-in-law,Larry(Nancy)Stillwell of Lostant and Darrel(Vicki)Guler of Rockford. She was preceded in death by her husband on September 16,1996, two daughters,Irna Guler and Mary Stillwell, one son James Snell,one brother James Flynn,one sister Evelyn Bauman and one son-in-law Paul Beenenga Sr. Memorials may be directed to Tonica Fire,Tonica Ambulance or Holy Family Church.
