MENDOTA – Barbara R. Christopher, 90, of Mendota, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Allure of Peru.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Waltham Presbyterian Church, 809 N. 3450th Road, Utica, with Rev. Joel Stevenor officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private at a later date at the Waltham Cemetery.
Barbara was born Dec. 12, 1934, to Edward and Ruth (Clement) Geil of Troy Grove. She married Everett J. Christopher on May 4, 1957, in the Waltham Presbyterian Church.
Barbara is survived by two sons, David “Orb” (Cindy) Christopher of Utica and John (Pam) Christopher of Mt. Pleasant, Wis.; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Geil.
Barbara attended Troy Grove Grade School and graduated from Mendota High School Class of 1953. She graduated from Illinois State University in 1957 with a B.S. in Education. She taught grade school at Ophir, Waltham, and Peru Washington. She worked for Christopher’s Insurance Agency in Triumph. She eventually retired from working from Eureka Savings Bank in Mendota after 23 years of service.
She played the organ and piano for 36 years at the First Presbyterian Church of Mendota. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Barbara was a past member of the Waltham Curling Club and was a member of the Waltham Presbyterian Church.
