According to a news clipping, he was very sick of typhoid in 1907; and another news clipping from 1919 states that he was “coming home” after serving in the 3rd Division. The Army 3rd Infantry Division was a crack unit of Americans that served in World War I, in some of the heaviest fighting at the Marne on the Western Front. Toward the end of the war they were transferred to the Eastern Front - Russia.
