Reuben appears in the Dryland Church records in a list in between supposed sisters Elizabeth and Catherine in 1825 recorded for “attendance of preparatory service”. His birthdate is a mystery though his grave supposedly says he died at age 81.1 Using census records his birthdate might have been closer to 1810, though.

According to the church records, he was confirmed at Dryland Reformed Church, Nov. 2, 1822, age 16.

In 1850 he is listed on the census (Salem, Champaign County, Ohio) as being married to Catherine and living near to his cousin, Henry. He later moves Dayton (where the others in his family are) and spends time in Chicago too, where is listed as Saloonist.

In 1850 there is a William Lenox listed in Reuben’s household. William is his sister Elizabeth’s child to a first marriage. They boy is listed in his father Christian’s will. This shows the connection between Reuben and Christian, his supposed father.

Oddly in 1850 a 55 year old Isaac Hagenbuch is living with him. There is a good chance this is an unmarried brother from Christian’s first marriage.
