Information from Enoch’s records and Find A Grave.1
Enoch says “He burned charcoal for some years at $18 per month and boarded himself. He though he could do better out west than he could in Schuylkill Co., with poor, hilly, and stony land.” He left in spring of 1859 and settled in Mason Co., Illinois, buying 160 acres of land. He lived there nine years. Cause of death is listed as heart disease. “He was a stout, well built man.”
