Robert Charles “Bob” Cole Naples, FL
Robert Charles “Bob” Cole, 88, of Naples, went to his heavenly home on Sat urday, September 11, 2010. Bob was born May 9, 1922 in Ottawa, IL, son of Charles and Gertrude Cole. After graduating from Ottawa High School, Bob worked at Illinois Bell Telephone for 42 years retiring in 1982. He joined the U.S. Army and was trained as a B-25 pilot serving during WW II in the South Pacific Theatre.
After flying over 50 missions, Bob returned safely to civilian life, his work with the phone company and married Lucille A. Thumm of Ottawa, IL. Together they raised five children.
A lifetime resident of Illinois, Bob moved to Naples in 1982 and married Mary Phyllis Burkett. He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and for a time, served on St. Peter’s financial committee. He was an active board member of the Lely Civic Association and the Lely Golf Estates Beautification MSTU committee. He also served on the Lely Palms NIR board.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Kenneth and Lloyd; and his loving wife, Lucille.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary of Naples; his children, Michael Cole of Mooresville, NC, Elizabeth (Judson) Bertoch of Suffolk, VA, Robert (Sharon) Cole of Farmers Branch, TX, Thomas (Molly) Cole of Palatine, IL, and Mary (Kimble) Christenson of Lake Zurich, IL. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 15th, (TODAY), 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Fuller Funeral Home, 4735 Tamiami Trail East.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 16th (TOMORROW), 10:00 a.m., St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 5130 Rattlesnake Hammock Road.
