Obituary: George Washington Hagenbuch, 94, loving father and husband, passed away in peace on January 9, 2019. He was a son of the late Clinton and Nettie (Straup) Hagenbuch. George was the husband of the late Joyce Mae (Britton) Hagenbuch for 60 years.
Born in Palmerton on George Washington’s birthday, February 22, 1924, George grew up working at his father’s ESSO gas station on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton. After graduating Palmerton High School, he enlisted and served his country honorably as an Expert Rifleman in the Philippines, with the Marines, during WWII. After his military service, he attended Stevens Trade School. An accomplished carpenter by trade for many years, he partnered with Curtis Wehr to build homes. He became a mill man for Butz Lumber Company of Palmerton, and was then employed by The Service Team for many years.
Survivors: He is survived by his daughters Jill Turko, and Jan wife of James Everett. Grandchildren, Kylee and Regan Turko, Tyler Meining, and Taryn Burke. Great-grandchildren, Sayler and Reilly Burke. His life-long friend, Dutch Ruch, and his beloved dog, “Barley”.
