Findagrave, Shaun Creighton:

Civil War Veteran - Elias served in the United States Union Army in the 177th Regiment, Company I, of the Pennsylvania Militia. Elias was drafted as was his older brother Jacob Reichard. Their eldest brother Simon Reichard actually volunteered. All the brothers had been instrumental in helping their mother Christiana Reichard maintain their large family farm in Madison Township after the sudden, premature, death of their father Samuel Reichard in 1856.

Upon his military discharge, Elias came back home to Columbia County, Pennsylvania and married his sweetheart Mariah Jane Mausteller. Together they had just one daughter Lizzie Reichard who would eventually marry Jasper Poust of Orangeville, PA. Elias’s property was just outside Orangeville in Orange Township.

Mariah sadly died young, in her forties, for which Elias was quite devastated. Three years later with the encouragement of his younger brother, John Reichard, Elias decided to remarry. He married the older maiden sister of John’s wife Emma Hagenbuch. Tillie Hagenbuch became Elias’s second wife in 1891. The marriage lasted 11 years, until Elias’s untimely death. Elias left his Estate to his only daughter Lizzie. This left Tillie basically homeless, although Elias did provide for her financially. Tillie would go to live with her sister Emma at the Reichard Farm along the Millville Road (Route 42), near the Wanich Covered Bridge.

Elias’s daughter Lizzie (Reichard) Poust would have 3 daughters with her husband Jasper Poust. Elias got to see and know his first two granddaughters. Youngest granddaughter Ethel was born the year Elias died. None of these granddaughters ever married or had children. Consequently, Elias has no living descendants.

Authored by his 3x Great Nephew, Shaun Creighton (Descendant of his sister Ellen Reichard).
